this is pretty much the same thing as four hour work week, right? Just more detailed/broken out?
I really need to take the time to do this.

The four hour work week reading style is super fast, but I find that how much i retain is decreased by a large amount.

Very true. The more you do it though, the more you can retain.
You have to get to the point where you don't think about the technique as you read.
I'm not that good at it though....and reading for learning is a lot different than reading fiction. Most learning stuff (like this forum and blog posts) can be skimmed and you still get the main gist.

Yeah, I feel like skim reading a fiction book would almost completely lose the "magic" so to speak, in reading. And definitely, you could never skim read poetry. But, as far as personal growth books and text books go, it would be a very good skill set to have. It just takes a significant investment that sounds rather exhausting. I need to do it though.

I have a curriculum I've started with David which basically teaches everything in this post. The key is practice. It needs to become natural. I've done all the exercises, etc... but then fall back into my own slow pace with lots of fixations and back tracking simply because I've never consistently practiced.
This could be a small hairy goal we all could work on together. A couple months of dedicated practice (as in 15-20 minutes per day) could be the tipping point for all of us. (Stephen, even you by increasing your comprehension when speed reading).
We could make this an action point for the next couple months while we brainstorm to identify our big hairy goal..... thoughts?
